Big Stuff Barbecue in Cottage Grove used to be two guys, a smoker, and an empty lot. Now it is a beautiful restaurant, which can seat 60 people. The ambiance of the place is that of the old west. Island walls are adorned with photos and small biographies of past hero’s, villains, and celebrities of the wild west in traditional museum style, so it can be a fun learning experience to walk through “Big Stuff”.
The establishment is very clean, and the service is quick and responsive with large portions.
The brothers both grew up in San Diego, but 6 years ago decided they were tired of traffic and crime, and wanted to move closer to family in Oregon. The brothers (Simon and Ira) both had a lot of experience working in restaurants, and working with meat in particular. They were able to save enough money to get their business going in an empty lot on Main Street. They started serving pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, and people loved the quality of the food and the prices. The city planners of Cottage Grove, however, suggested that the brothers make the next step and open an actual building location. Once they committed themselves to “Big Stuff BBQ” they went for it and never looked back.
Everything at Big Stuff is made by the brothers. The cole slaw, the sauses, the corn bread, and of course the meat. Well they don’t make the meat, but you know what I’m saying.
In my opinion, Cottage Grove is just a fun place to spend the day. If you are tired of the same old thing in Eugene, you should bop on down to Cottage Grove for a “date day”, because it is really fun to check out.
Two people are gonna spend between $12 and $22 bucks for a great meal. Bon Appetite
